Connect any CNC machine: the controller-by-controller reference
For each control: which protocol it speaks, which licence the CNC needs, which port to open and which data you actually get. Every fact links to the vendor document it came from; where a vendor publishes nothing, we say so.

What is the easiest way to connect a CNC machine?
Use what the control already speaks: native OPC UA on SINUMERIK (with licence) and recent HEIDENHAIN, FOCAS on FANUC, the builder's MTConnect agent on Haas, Mazak and Okuma. Add a gateway only when the native interface is missing or locked.
Do I need a licence to read data from a CNC?
Often yes, on the CNC or on the collector: Siemens sells Access MyMachine /OPC UA, HEIDENHAIN sells options 56–61 and 18, FANUC sells the FOCAS library, Haas enables MTConnect through its Factory Outlet. Okuma's MTConnect agent and THINC API are free.
Which port should I open for CNC monitoring?
FOCAS uses TCP 8193, OPC UA servers usually 4840, MTConnect agents 5000 (Haas NGC 8082, DMG MORI CELOS 15404), HEIDENHAIN DNC 19000 or 19003. See the ports cheat sheet.
