Connect Mazak MAZATROL SmoothG / SmoothX / SmoothAi / SmoothCC / SmoothEz

MTConnect is the preferred way to connect Mazak machines. On Smooth controls MTConnect is installed on the control's Windows side with a machine-specific licence file that Mazak supplies; integrators say to contact Mazak to buy it for Preview G, SmoothEz and Smart controls, and describe SmoothEz as MTConnect-native. Mazak's SMARTBOX hosts several MTConnect agents behind an encrypted port.

Software versions

  • Controls made in 2010 or later likely MTConnect-compatible (integrator guidance)
  • Fusion Client v2.1 or later for the Fusion adapter path

Data you can read

  • MTConnect: availability, execution, mode, program, part count, spindle and axis data, alarms (per the agent's device file)
  • Part count can be forced with macro #3901=#3901+1 before M30

Setting it up

  1. Identify the controlRead the control model on the HMI (SmoothG, SmoothX, SmoothAi, SmoothCC, SmoothEz).
  2. Get the licenceAsk Mazak for MTConnect for the machine serial; it ships on a thumb drive with a machine-specific licence file.
  3. Install on the controlInstall into the MTConnect folder on the control's Windows side.
  4. Do not change the NC IPIntegrator guidance: keep the NC's own address; add the plant address as instructed by Mazak.
  5. TestOpen http://<ip>:<agent-port>/current from the plant network.

Traps to avoid

  • Mazak's public demo agent (mtconnect.mazakcorp.com) is useful to build the client before the licence arrives.
