Connect Mitsubishi Electric M8V series (M800V / M80V)
On M800V and M80V the Ethernet interface, EZSocket, the Custom API Library and the SLMP server are standard. Mitsubishi's specifications do not list an OPC UA server or MTConnect agent on the CNC: both come from Mitsubishi PC software, NC Machine Tool Connector (OPC UA server with the OPC UA for Machine Tools model, up to 30 CNCs) and the MTConnect Adapter. M800VS and M80V add built-in wireless LAN.
At a glance
| Standard interfaces | Ethernet, EZSocket, Custom API, SLMP server |
|---|---|
| OPC UA | NC Machine Tool Connector (PC, umati model) |
| MTConnect | Mitsubishi MTConnect Adapter + Data Collector (PC) |
| Wireless | Built in on M800VS / M80V |
| Real-time sampling | Custom API on M800V/M80V only |
Connection paths
Windows service; OPC UA server v1.03 with OPC UA for Machine Tools 1.00.00; also MTConnect and OPC UA client, MQTT 3.1.1 publisher. Limits: 30 CNCs, 4500 data points (150 per machine).
Adapter + Edgecross Data Collector, up to 12 agents.
Write your own client in C/C#/C++ on Windows.

Software versions
- Custom API Library: Windows 11, x86/x64
- NC Machine Tool Connector supports M8V, M8 and M7 via Custom API
Data you can read
- Programs and files: read, write, upload, download (Custom API / EZSocket)
- Coordinates, alarms and diagnostic information
- NC data: tool data, variables; PLC device values
- Through the MTConnect adapter: axis position and load, spindle load, actual and commanded speed, spindle temperature, availability, emergency stop, NC and PLC alarms, power-on and operating time, cycle time, feed rates, block, mode, execution, line, M-codes, part count, program and sequence numbers, tool number, power consumption
- Real-time sampling (Custom API, M800V/M80V only)
Setting it up
- Enable Ethernet on the CNCM800/M80/M850: [PRM] → [>] → [IoT-F] "IoT-Friendly Setup": set IP address, subnet, gateway; leave the port field at 0. Older M70/M700: parameters #1925 (Ethernet enable = 1), #1926 IP, #1927 subnet, #1928 gateway. Power-cycle the whole machine.
- Use the CNLAN portThe built-in Ethernet connector is labelled CNLAN.
- Choose the PC softwareFor MTConnect: Mitsubishi MTConnect Adapter + MTConnect Data Collector (Edgecross) on a 64-bit Windows 10 industrial PC. For OPC UA: NC Machine Tool Connector, a Windows service that serves OPC UA with the OPC UA for Machine Tools (umati) model.
- Licence the PC softwareThe MTConnect Data Collector needs a product ID; NC Machine Tool Connector installs with a licence key.
- Test one machineRead mode, execution state and part count before adding the full tag list.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Machine will not boot after network change | IP entered in an HMI IP field | Never enter addresses in the HMI IP fields (integrator warning: it can brick the machine). Use only the NC Ethernet parameters. |
| MTConnect values show Unavailable | Link to the NC dropped or collection interval shorter than the agent interval | Check the cable and set the collection interval equal to or longer than the agent interval. |
| Adapter makes the M7 control alarm | NC-MAIN software below the minimum | Update the NCU firmware; integrator guidance lists minimum NC-MAIN versions per machine type. |
Traps to avoid
- Wireless LAN needs the country code set and depends on country approvals.
- PROFINET and DeviceNet are not available on the M8 family.

Questions engineers ask
Does the M80V have an OPC UA server?
Not on the CNC per Mitsubishi's specifications. Mitsubishi's NC Machine Tool Connector, a Windows service, serves OPC UA (with the umati machine-tool model) for up to 30 CNCs.
