Connect Mitsubishi Electric M7 series (M70 / M700, M70V / M700V, E70)
M7-series controls are supported by Mitsubishi's Custom API Library, MTConnect Adapter (NC types 2 and 6) and NC Machine Tool Connector. Ethernet is enabled with parameters #1925 to #1928. On Citizen machines, integrators publish minimum NC-MAIN software versions below which an adapter can make the control alarm.

Software versions
- Minimum NC-MAIN for the MachineMetrics adapter on Citizen: A32 (AE), K16E (EM), L12 (EP), L720 (B5), L20E IX (EU), L20X (EM), L220 (EQ), L32 (EQ), M4xx (EU)
Data you can read
- Programs and files: read, write, upload, download (Custom API / EZSocket)
- Coordinates, alarms and diagnostic information
- NC data: tool data, variables; PLC device values
- Through the MTConnect adapter: axis position and load, spindle load, actual and commanded speed, spindle temperature, availability, emergency stop, NC and PLC alarms, power-on and operating time, cycle time, feed rates, block, mode, execution, line, M-codes, part count, program and sequence numbers, tool number, power consumption
Setting it up
- Enable Ethernet on the CNCM800/M80/M850: [PRM] → [>] → [IoT-F] "IoT-Friendly Setup": set IP address, subnet, gateway; leave the port field at 0. Older M70/M700: parameters #1925 (Ethernet enable = 1), #1926 IP, #1927 subnet, #1928 gateway. Power-cycle the whole machine.
- Use the CNLAN portThe built-in Ethernet connector is labelled CNLAN.
- Choose the PC softwareFor MTConnect: Mitsubishi MTConnect Adapter + MTConnect Data Collector (Edgecross) on a 64-bit Windows 10 industrial PC. For OPC UA: NC Machine Tool Connector, a Windows service that serves OPC UA with the OPC UA for Machine Tools (umati) model.
- Licence the PC softwareThe MTConnect Data Collector needs a product ID; NC Machine Tool Connector installs with a licence key.
- Test one machineRead mode, execution state and part count before adding the full tag list.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|
| Machine will not boot after network change | IP entered in an HMI IP field | Never enter addresses in the HMI IP fields (integrator warning: it can brick the machine). Use only the NC Ethernet parameters. |
| MTConnect values show Unavailable | Link to the NC dropped or collection interval shorter than the agent interval | Check the cable and set the collection interval equal to or longer than the agent interval. |
| Adapter makes the M7 control alarm | NC-MAIN software below the minimum | Update the NCU firmware; integrator guidance lists minimum NC-MAIN versions per machine type. |
Traps to avoid
- M700 on Cincom/Miyano machines uses a different protocol from the M70/M80/M800 method (integrator note).
- Kepware's "Mitsubishi CNC Ethernet" driver covers the older C64 only.
