OPC UA in C++
There is no dominant open C++ OPC UA stack. In practice C++ projects either wrap open62541 with open62541pp for RAII and type safety, or buy a commercial SDK. Both are legitimate; the choice is usually about support rather than features.
| Project | open62541pp and vendor SDKs |
|---|---|
| Version | tracks open62541 |
| Licence | MPL 2.0 (wrapper) |
| Install | CMake FetchContent, or a commercial SDK |
What to know before you start
- open62541pp gives you RAII, exceptions and std types over the C API: much pleasanter than calling open62541 directly from C++.
- You inherit open62541's limitations, including no Query service set and no HTTPS.
- Commercial C++ SDKs exist and come with support contracts and certification help. For a product that must be certified, that is often the cheaper path overall.
Recipes for this stack are not published yet. The twelve-task recipe matrix currently covers Python, Node.js, C#/.NET and C. The concepts are identical across stacks: start from the Python recipes and map the calls.
