| Sector | Weighing equipment |
The weighing equipment model, second generation, published March 2025. Scales appear throughout food, pharmaceutical and chemical production, and weight is frequently the actual measure of production rather than a part count.
Where it sits in the stack
Built on the Device Information Model. A scale is a device rather than a machine, so the DI layer matters more here than the Machinery layer.
The types that matter

Using it on a real machine
- Confirm the V2 namespaceScales V2 is a separate namespace from the earlier work. Read the ModelUri.
- Establish the legal metrology positionWeighing in trade or regulated production is often legally controlled, which constrains what may be read, changed or recorded. Find out before designing anything that writes.
- Treat weight as the production unit where it isIn continuous and batch processes the mass produced is the production figure, not a part count.
What it gives you for OEE
Where weight is the production measure, this is your performance input directly - mass per hour against a rate. Also a quality input for fill accuracy and giveaway, which in food and pharmaceutical production is frequently worth more than the OEE number.
Gotchas
- Legal metrology constraints are real in this sector and restrict what you may read, write or record. Establish the position before designing.
- V2 is a distinct namespace from the earlier model.
- Weight as a production unit changes your OEE formula. Agree it with production first.
Once the machine speaks a companion spec, the OEE mapping is portable across vendors, which is the point at which analytics stops being a per-machine project.
